September has been designated as Pain Awareness Month since 2001 when the American Chronic Pain Association (ACPA) led a coalition of organizations in starting an ongoing campaign of awareness for chronic pain conditions.
Here are 6 tips from the ACPA on how you can get involved and help raise awareness:
-
Talk with Friends & Family: Let them know that September is Pain Awareness Month. “Like” the ACPA, National Fibromyalgia Association and other chronic pain organizations on Facebook.
-
Talk with your Healthcare Provider: Let them know that September is Pain Awareness Month.
-
Call your local government and community leaders to let them know about Pain Awareness Month and issues of pain and pain management.
-
Call your local media and ask them if they are doing a story on Pain Awareness Month.
-
Donate to the ACPA, National Fibromyalgia Association and other chronic pain organizations.
-
Take care of yourself! Take time out for yourself this month.
