Once someone decides to try CBD oil, the most common question they ask is about CBD oil dosage…”How Much CBD Should I Take?” The real answer to this question is that the “right” CBD dosage is different for each person. This is because there are a number of different factors involved, including each individual’s body chemistry, weight, severity of condition and concentration of the CBD product that you have chosen.
A good strategy for finding the “right” CBD dosage for you involves determining a good starting point and then making adjustments to the dosage until you find what works best to achieve your desired results. A certain degree of patience is necessary for this “trial and error” method but most people report finding a dosage level that works for them after a few weeks of experimentation.
CBD oil dosage levels are expressed in milligrams (mg) not the number of drops or number of capsules so be sure to review the nutritional label on the CBD product that you have chosen to understand the number of milligrams that you are taking.
STEP 1: Determine a good starting dosage for you.
It is generally best to start with a smaller dose and then increase it gradually until the desired result is experienced. CBD oil is not an FDA-approved supplement so there is no scientific data or research to support the “right” starting point. The table below is a general guideline based on what others have reported is a good starting point.
The Mayo Clinic has also published some recommended CBD dosage levels that may also be helpful in determining a good starting point:
CBD Dosage for Chronic Pain: 2.5 – 20mg CBD has been taken by mouth for an average of 25 days
CBD Dosage for Epilepsy: 200-300mg of CBD has been taken by mouth daily for up to 4.5 months
STEP 2: Start taking your starting dosage.
It is recommended that when you first start taking CBD that you take 1/2 dose of your starting amount in the morning and 1/2 dose in the evening. Starting slow is a good approach so that you can determine if there are any adverse effects for you. Continue with this regimen for a week and see how you feel. If you have adverse effects, you should decrease the dosage and/or consult with your medical professional.
STEP 3: Make adjustments to your dosage levels until you experience your desired results.
After one week, you can then gradually increase the number of milligrams if you are not experiencing the desired result or decrease the dosage if your symptoms get worse. After a period of experimentation and adjustments, you will hopefully determine the optimal dosage for you.
